THE BOULDER HIGH SCHOOL INAUGURAL NAHS, 2015-16
The inaugural NAHS chapter at Boulder High School was launched this fall with a senior-only group of nineteen members: Maya Wilson, Kaya Tone, Audrey Leonard, Seani Anderson, Camille Britton, Kate Brackley, Maddie Werner, Avery Banik, Amanda Worthy, Katya Lien, Emily Hanson, Taylor Coil, Caroline Bertini, Meg Houlihan, Blythe Feeney, Asher Blackburn, Anna Daly, Annie Koval, and Sophie Gabriel. Virginia Schick is the faculty sponsor. Our NAHS chapter serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Artistry, Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. This is the first time students at Boulder High School will have the opportunity to be a part of National Arts Honors Society and we couldn’t be more excited. We have a hard-working, motivated, and exceptionally creative group. We can’t wait to share this with the Boulder Community.
When we came together for our first meeting. We elected officers, filled out forms, discussed a NAHS/BHS t-shirt, and came up with a motto. We also brainstormed our philanthropic art project for the spring.
Since fall, we have been deeply involved with our philanthropic project with local artist, Emma Hardy. Emma is creating larger-than-life beetle puppets that will be worn by artists who will create performances in Boulder, CO and beyond. The Boulder High NAHS chapter will perform in two dances in April. The beetles symbolize Boulder and her sister cities. The beetles and the performances are a means to emphasize the beauty, diversity, and union of the human culture and the animal kingdom. Her work has been displayed in museums and galleries and used in performances all over the country. See: https://www.artmolds.com/blog/the-realistic-packing-tape-sculptures-of-emma-hardy.html This is an opportunity to be a part of a dynamic, rich and widely seen public art project. Emma is excited to work with our team to be involved with all aspects of the project. We are making silk wings, writing the scripts, doing the t-shirt design, and performing.
We are so grateful to be able to be a part of NAHS and our philanthropic project.
INAGURAL NAHS, 2015-16
The inaugural NAHS chapter at Boulder High School was launched this fall with a senior only group of nineteen members: Maya Caulfield, Kaya Tone, Seani Anderson, Maddie Werner, Avery Banik, Amanda Worthy, Katya Lien, Emily Hanson, Taylor Coil, Caroline Bertini, Meg Houlihan, Blythe Feeney, Asher Blackburn, Anna Daly, Sophie Gabriel. Virginia Schick is the faculty sponsor. Our NAHS chapter serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Artistry, Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.
During the first meeting we filled out forms, voted for officers, discussed a NAHS/BHS t-shirt, secret handshake and word-smythed a motto. We are bringing designs to vote on for our t-shirt to our next meeting. We also brainstormed our philanthropic art project for the spring. Ideas are to paint a mural on a bike path underpass or in an ugly alley around Boulder to assisting a local artist in a performance art/puppet piece in area neighborhoods.
We are excited and motivated to make a difference with our art in our school and city. “GO ART!”
